In 2009, U.S. Congress recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States. Various states, counties, and cities in the U.S. have established proclamations and resolutions declaring observance of Filipino American History Month.1
Filipino American History Month is here! I never thought participating in Pilipino Cultural Night at UC Irvine would still impact my life now. Those college experiences with UCI Kababayan truly shaped who I am as a person. It created a pipeline from college organizing to community organizing with Filipino American arts organizations and non-profits in Los Angeles.

October is a wild time for “professional Filipinos.” What do I mean by “professional Filipinos?” If you are a Filipino American and active in the community, you most likely have produced an event this month, or you are being invited to attend events this month, or you are being asked to be on a panel this month. My PCN experiences, community organizing history, and This Filipino American Life podcast definitely make me a professional Filipino.
And as a proper professional Filipino, I’ve got an event that I’m personally inviting you to attend!

Doors open at 6pm. So get there early! Come hang out with us. And you wanna know a secret? There will be prizes! Giveaways! Free stuff! Who doesn’t love free stuff?! Come by and get win stuff like t-shirts and stickers and books and who knows what else?
After the live show, join us for the TFAL After Party! It will be near the venue. Like walkable near. And guess what, food and drinks are covered! Like a proper Filipino party. Join us! Because if you don’t we’ll be forced to eat and drink all the things we paid for!
