During the holidays Mike and I have this unofficial rule that we stop shopping for ourselves. The focus should be on presents for our loved ones.
Currently my work from home office feels like a stock room. Boxes filled with presents and stocking stuffers have taken over.
One of my favorite podcasts is Add to Cart with Kulap Vilaysack & SuChin Pak.
I’ve interacted with Kulap at Los Angeles Asian American Film Festival and have tried to not fan girl around her because I am such a big fan of her work in comedy. When I was a festival programmer I made sure to see her documentary Origin Story. It’s very good and is streaming on Prime Video. Go watch it!
Like many of my peers, I grew up watching SuChin Pak on MTV News. As a teen growing up with few Asian American role models, I latched on to seeing SuChin on my screen. So the fact that SuChin has acknowledged my presence on the internet brings me so much joy.
So why am I bringing up this podcast? Because the whole theme is shopping and adding to cart. My toxic trait is that I add to cart and it sits there for…who knows how long. This is a total Instagram ad thing. Have I bought towels from Sand Cloud? Absolutley. I love them. They dry so fast. They are the best at the beach. I am now at that age where I want towels and socks for Christmas. I will appreciate these gifts and cherish them!
Speaking of socks. Have you head of the magic of compression socks? Wow…I realize how old I sound. But seriously. They’re magic. I wear them on long flights, long road trips, and even at concerts! I basically live in compression leggings, but when I’m not wearing compression leggings, compression socks are my go to. Have I purchased these Wellow socks? No, because I normally just go to Amazon and get whatever is on sale. But if I were to treat myself I would get these Wellow socks in XLW because I am Filipino and have big ass calves.
Jewelry, towels, socks. I know…so adult. This is where I am at in my life. But I am also a kid at heart that appreciates a Target gift card, a Trader Joe’s gift card, or a membership to National Parks.
