Provenica life would be put on pause for festival time. On this day we would have breakfast and then head to Iloilo for Dinagyang festival. Dinagyang is the Iloilo version of the Santo Nino celebration.
On this morning, breakfast would be fresh crabs. And…I would be in pure heaven.

Crabs were paired with traditional rice treats that Grandma Oping brought to the house. She picked them up from a local vendor. Having fresh rice treats with the crab was crazy good.
Then it was time to head back to Iloilo. The first night of festivities is called “Illumination.” It lets all the performers with lights show off their routines and ingenuity. The lights were so colorful and festive. There isn’t like one specific song that they would play the whole time, like in Cebu. Instead it was a party vibe the whole time. Think a hype dance playlist with Pitbull, Dua Lipa, and other happy dance music.

And as always there is Santo Nino representation. My favorite was this kid. Who wore a whole Santo Nino outfit that was lit up. Like…amazing. To say that you got to be freakin Santo Nino in a parade. Just…AMAZING.
