In another lifetime I walked the streets in solidarity chanting “From the River. To the Sea. Palestine will be free.” Seeing that chant being used again broke my heart because it still rings true.
My solidarity does not mean anti-semitism. I mourn the loss of life. My heart breaks for the children, sisters, brothers who were not allowed to live with dignity, who died over a biblical war that’s been raging for centuries. We want peace and freedom.

This was my caption on Instagram. The heartache echoes with most of my peers.
Mike and I were at dinner and we were talking about whether or not we should go to the protests happening. In the past we were out in the streets; marching with the people. Last night I said these words and I didn’t realize how much they rang true until I said them.
I don’t have the energy anymore to be out there. But also, there is no one at home who will check in on me, to make sure I’m safe anymore.
Papa Dodge knew that if there was a protest, Mike and I would most likely be marching in the streets. He would watch the news, see the marches, and in our daily evening calls he would ask if I was there and how did it go. He never told me not to go. He knew that my heart would lead me to where I would need to be. But now that he’s gone. Now that him and Mama GingGing are together in heaven. My heart is telling me to stay home. My heart is telling me that I’m tired. My heart is broken. My heart is telling me there are other ways to support this movement.
