A Feeling Is Not A Solid
When I was in therapy, my therapist gave me this phrase as a mantra for when I start to feel overwhelmed and anxious. I have been saying it a lot to myself lately. Given what is going on in the world, I have needed this phrase more than ever.
In my 20s and 30s, I would be out in the streets. But now as a xennial in their 40s, I don’t have the bandwidth to do that. More power to everyone who can. Instead I share info, I donate to organizations, I have conversations with the people around me.
This feeling will end. It won’t be forever. And if the 1960s movements have taught us anything, it is that standing on the right side of history is important.
Oh and fyi, Los Angeles is not a war zone. I went to the doctor this morning and it was business as usual. The administration’s use of ICE, DHS, etc are who and what is inciting violence in the city, not the locals.
